Israel Connection
Israel Connections Committee
The BJF’s Israel Connections Committee (ICC), chaired by volunteer Sheri Krell is dedicated to strengthening the connection between the people of the City of Birmingham and the people of Israel. The committee accomplishes this goal through creative approaches and exchange programs with Rosh Ha'ayin, Birmingham's official Sister City. The Birmingham Jewish community has had a relationship with Rosh Ha’ayin dating back to the late 1970’s when community leaders Max and Tillie Kimerling provided the funding to build a community center in the then fledgling city. Today Rosh Ha’ayin boasts a population of approximately 40,000 and is known as the “City with Music in its Heart” for its wonderful music conservatory and focus on the arts.
Birmingham and Rosh Ha’ayin have participated in educator, music and chef exchanges together. The ICC is currently working with Rosh Ha’ayin to strengthen business relationships between the two cities.
